This map is the product of 11 months of work as an independent contractor with the USGS. Created in collaboration with Dr. Sam Johnstone and finished in July of 2025, it shows the results of a classification model trained to predict the extent of eolian and loess deposits across the Great Plains region of the U.S. The model was trained on eolian, loess, and alluvium data compiled from several state and federal data sources and predicted eolian deposits with a 90% accuracy.
